TITLE: Public Works Worker I-This is the entry level position. Incumbent entering the class has little or no directly related experience.
JOB DEFINITION: Under general supervision performs various levels of maintenance, repair, and construction of water, sewer, storm drainage, streets, facilities maintenance and parks projects.

Performs tasks of the following types:
Streets: Removes snow and ice from streets, parking lots and sidewalks. Seals, cleans, repairs, and replaces asphalt and concrete. Paints, stripes and marks streets, crosswalks and parking lots. Repairs, replaces, and sets posted signs.
Storm Drainage System: Conducts physical and video inspections; repairs, cleans and maintains drainage system including manholes, grates, inlets, outlets and connecting pipelines.
Parks: Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs; mows, trims and controls weeds. Removes trash and maintains easements and rights-of-way. Repairs, replaces, installs, and maintains sprinkler systems and controls.
Water Supply and Distribution: Conducts security and limited operational checks and maintenance of City wells. Maintains, repairs and replaces water mains, valves and service lines. Maintains, repairs, installs, replaces, flushes and paints fire hydrants. Maintains, repairs, installs, replaces and reads residential and commercial water meters.
Wastewater Collection: Performs security and limited operational checks and maintenance of lift stations. Maintains, cleans, repairs and replaces sewer mains and service lines. Reads flow meters.
Cleans and organizes shop, yard and work area. Maintains assigned tools, equipment and vehicles. Assists other departments as needed; provides assistance for community events. Responds to after hours emergencies as required.
Physical activities include frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, climbing; occasional sitting and lifting or carrying up to 80 pounds; hearing, speaking, vision and manual dexterity. Working environment includes work outdoors in cold or heat, uneven terrain, noise, confined working space, electrical and mechanical hazards, vibration, and chemicals. Regular driving is required.
