Overview

Directs and manages cultivation operations and activities. Supports the Director of Operations in research and development to enhance the company’s genetic library, developing proprietary genetics and seeds.  Will manage resources, cultivation budget, develop and review standard operating procedures; policies and procedures, and operational guidelines.  Manages harvest schedule with processing team to facilitate labor and facilities required for processing. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish at a fluent level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (This list is not intended to be all inclusive)
●       Direct and oversee the daily activities of assigned staff and functions;

–   Ensure appropriate staffing levels

–   Ensure necessary training, training manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOP)

–   Manages the growing, scheduling, documenting, seed sowing, planting and cuttings/clones

–   Schedule thinning and other cultural practices

–   Manage water & nutrient needs for crops

–   Monitor plants for disease, fungus, algae, weeds, moss and insects. Design and initiate corrective and preventative steps and ensure follow-through

–   Manage document progress and monitoring cultivation production

●       Supervise research and development, in conjunction with Operations Manager;

–   Manage testing of soil/mediums, nutrients, cultivation processes and supplies are performed

–   Manage genetic development and selective breeding practices to produce unique strains of cannabis

–   Perform research in industry literature and design to conduct in-house experiments to improve germination rates, disease resistance, and other factors relevant to overall greenhouse and cultivation productivity

●       Exercise significant authority and discretion when addressing items which concern grow location, including:

–   Participate in developing and implementing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to advance the company’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives

–   Make recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination or advancement of employees

–   Participate in the performance review process

●       Other duties and projects as assigned

JOB SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
●       Knowledge and enforcement of the policies, procedures and goals of the company

●       A minimum of 5 years of expert cannabis cultivation experience, traditional and organic cultivation methods is required

●       Speak and be literate in English to the extent of writing, reading and understand printed regulations, orders, instructions, etc., an individual who is bilingual in Spanish at a fluent level is highly desired

●       Skill in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of goals

●       Skill in planning, organizing, assigning and coordinating the activities and resources of staff

●       Ability to:

–   Exercise discretionary authority

–   Communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences, cross functional/departmental

–   Use initiative and independent judgment appropriately

–   Interpret, understand, and comply with complex statutes, ordinances, regulations, standards, and laws

–   Analyze and evaluate information accurately, and to express ideas clearly when providing oral and written reports or recommendations on administrative, financial and technical issues

–   Use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, data base management, spreadsheet applications and electronic mail

–   Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, customers, other governmental agencies, community members and the public

–   Understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures

WORK CONTEXT
Physical Requirements
●       Requires prolonged walking, standing and some bending, stooping and stretching

●       Grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions

●       Fine hand dexterity with various sizes of manual equipment

●       Ability to lift, carry and balance up to 75 lbs. (100 lbs. with assistance)

●       Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

Working Conditions
●       Work is generally performed both inside and outside the greenhouse premises

●       Work is subject to weather conditions, including rain and hot or cold temperatures

●       Involves frequent contact with varied levels of personnel, including vendors, visitors and staff

●       Will require working rotating shifts with varied hours/day, including evenings weekends, holidays, and special events

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
●       A minimum of five years of prior experience working in a cultivation facility; prior ag-related experience will be considered.

●       Bachelor’s in ag science, crop production or related field will be considered

●       Continuing education will be required to maintain certifications and licenses and/or increase industry knowledge

●       At least of 21 years old and pass required background check

●       Experience working in the medical cannabis and/or health industry highly desirable

CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES REQUIRED
●       Current medical cannabis recommendation

●       A valid driver’s license and be insurable
